A Wolf range that will not light is frustrating, especially when you have invested in one of the finest cooking appliances available. Before calling for service, there are several troubleshooting steps you can safely perform at home. Many ignition issues have simple solutions.
Start with the obvious: is the gas supply turned on? Check the gas valve behind the range and ensure it is fully open. If you recently had work done on your gas lines, the supply may have been turned off and not restored.
Examine the burner caps and heads. Wolf ranges have precision-engineered burner components that must be properly seated. Remove the burner cap and grate, then replace them, ensuring the cap sits flat and centered on the burner head. Misaligned caps are one of the most common causes of ignition failure.
Clean the igniter and surrounding area. Food debris, grease, and moisture can prevent proper ignition. Use a soft brush or toothbrush to gently clean around the igniter electrode. Never use water or liquid cleaners directly on the igniter. A cotton swab dampened with rubbing alcohol works well for stubborn buildup.
Check for moisture. If liquid has spilled on the cooktop or the range was recently cleaned, moisture may be preventing ignition. Allow the burners to dry completely. You can speed this by lighting a working burner nearby to generate heat, or leave the range open for several hours.
Listen for the clicking sound when you turn the knob. If you hear clicking but see no spark, the igniter is trying to work but may be positioned incorrectly or damaged. If there is no clicking at all, the igniter module may need service.
If the burner lights but the flame is weak or yellow instead of blue, you may have a partially clogged burner port. The small holes around the burner head can become blocked with debris. Clean these carefully with a straight pin, never a toothpick, which can break off inside.
After trying these steps, if your Wolf range still will not light properly, professional service is needed. Igniter replacement, gas valve issues, or control module problems require trained technicians. Do not attempt repairs involving gas connections yourself.
